Why women should lift weights?

As we come into 2019, more people are beginning their fitness journey as well as more women choosing to lift weights! Which is AMAZING! However, the fear of becoming "too bulky" or "too muscular" remains. Now, here I am to explain WHY it is so important for more women to stop fearing weight lifting and to start enjoying it!

Burns fat

To key to loosing weight and burning fat is to burn more calories than we consume each day. In order to do this we need to exercise! :) Each day we will burn a specific amount of calories just from breathing and daily bodily functions (minus the exercise and moving around you do!) this is called your basal metabolic rate (BMR).

Through weight training and building lean muscle you require, carbs, protein and fat to actively support your muscles and be used in the form of energy. Thus, increasing your resting metabolic rate!

Bone Density

As your bones are put under stress from the force of resistance training, over a period of time they grow stronger enabling them to withstand extra force.

Osteoporosis is an ever increasing concern among many women later in life. Building up the strength within the bones can help decrease the chances of later developing osteoporosis, with studies proving that resistance training is more effective than aerobic training.

Boost your confidence

Every time you pick up a weight, you become stronger. So, as time progresses and you begin to notice yourself picking up 5-10kg heavier than where you started, your confidence will boost!

Weight loss and fat loss can often take a few weeks before any real changes take effect where as strength can increase week on week - making ALL of my female clients feel PROUD OF THEMSELVES.

Helps in other activities.

Weight training is not just for the gym. Through lifting weights you begin to notice daily activities become much easier also. Not only this but you may find yourself exceeding in other sports as well. Speed, power, endurance and agility can all increase through picking up those weights!

You don't always need to lift heavy or have access to a gym.

A lot of people think they need access to a gym to lift weights, although yes there is more variety in the gym, purchasing some resistance bands and cheap dumbbells can start you off just perfectly!

If you're not sure where to start, don't worry! Pop over to my contact page and drop me a message and I am sure to be able to help you on your way to lifting weights in 2019.
